So what can we do?

It's a lot easier to recover from catastrophe if sensible precautions were put in place before rather than after. Unlike paper records, computer data is relatively easy to back up and modern systems allow this to be done out of reach of the fire, flood or whatever the disaster was.

A DR appliance can store not just your data, but also a mirrored copy of your actual servers; these can be booted up on the appliance, enabling the system to be back up and running in minutes even after a total failure of a server.

In turn, the appliance itself can be mirrored via the internet to an off-site location, thus providing a complete alternative system backup in a safe location.
