VoIP Telephone Systems

Oryx XL - excelling in IT support services

What is VoIP?

VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is a new type of telephone system that is revolutionizing the telephone industry.

Instead of using telephone wires, voice communication is transmitted over the same wires and system as computer network data.

You make and receive calls in the normal way using a phone but the calls are all handled via your computer system with no need for separate telephone wiring.

VoIP has the following benefits over traditional telephone systems:

  • Space saving
  • No need for separate telephone wires
  • Cost
  • As VoIP uses the same links that computers use, it means long distance and international calls can be handled over the internet. In many cases your calls between computers will be free – the same way as it does not cost to send/receive emails.
  • Calls to landlines and mobiles are also considerably cheaper than conventional methods.
  • Functionality
  • VoIP provides better integration between your phones and your computers to give increased functionality. Your computer can tell you who’s calling before you lift the receiver, and bring callers’ details up on the screen. Similarly, a customer’s record can be highlighted and one click will dial the number for you.
  • Uses your existing computer screen
  • Links external offices
  • Provides home workers with a direct phone extension
  • Cheap or even free calls – anywhere!
  • Easy operation for facilities such as voice mail, call diversion, call logging, recording etc.
